Short questions and answers meeting (May 17th)

The majority of the Board can meet on Wednesday, May 17th at 6:00pm at Riverfront Park. I know this is relatively short notice but most members have been involved in tryouts and do not have a lot of “free” time available. I would suggest that to simplify things, perhaps you can coordinate with someone to act as the primary spokesperson to address the board. This would help to keep the focus on the issues raised so we don’t digress into other areas. Should you have any questions, please let me know at your earliest convenience. mark@cdosoccer.com

---PARENT ADVISORY---

PARENTS ARE NEEDED TO COME & VOICE CONCERNS ABOUT FIELD USAGE TO COUNTY OFFICIALS MAY 11TH AT 7:00 PM

Supervisor Ann Day, County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry, and

Parks/Recs Director Rafael Payan will be in Attendance

May 5th, 2006 (Tucson, Arizona) The Tucson Soccer Academy, the Foothills Futbol Club and CDO Soccer Club needs your support!  A meeting has been scheduled with County officials on Thursday, May 11th, at Catalina Foothills High School, House 1, at 7:00 pm for parents, coaches, players, and residents to voice concerns about current field usage and also show support for more lighted fields to be built.

TSA, FFC and CDO encourage all families to bring their players with them to the meeting and have them wear  BLUE Jerseys.  TSA, FFC and CDO will not get another opportunity like this to really show the county how more lighted fields are needed NOW.  Again, TSA, FFC and CDO will need a very strong showing at this meeting if the clubs want to have more fields available.  Being at the meeting is as just as important as talking at the meeting.

This is a great opportunity for the soccer community to stand-up and voice a united and consistent message about the current field situation in Tucson.  TSA, FFC and CDO have outlined some key guidelines and talking points for the meeting and they are as follows:

FACTS

·        There is only one full-time, dedicated soccer field (Mehl Park) serving the Foothills area with over 20% (1000 kids) of the youth soccer players in the County living in that area.

·        There are no parks East of Sabino Canyon Road, West of Oracle Road and North of River Road.

·        Land is limited in the Foothills area and that is why more lighted fields are needed at Rillito, Mehl, and Brandi Fenton parks.  TSA and FFC serve kids from all over Tucson at these three fields.

·        A field with lights is three to four times more usable than a field without lights because of the additional practice slots.

·        The County controls Mehl, Brandi Fenton, and Rillito parks.  The County also overlaps all of the towns and municipalities and has the ability to sponsor county-wide bond programs and develop fields everywhere.

·        The County spends billions and they are planning another bond issue in 2008.  If we want funds for fields we have to get on the agenda NOW!

·        All youth sports organizations currently have at least one person that spends a lot of time competing with other youth sports organizations over field use because the community does not have sufficient park space.

·        Current parks are in poor quality because of the inability to rest fields because of demand.

PRIORITY:

·        The County needs to hear a strong message that more parks/fields must be a priority NOW!

·        You are a tax paying citizen who needs to see the park issue addressed immediately.

·        The Foothills area represents the largest tax base and the highest percentage of voters in the County.

CDO SOCCER CLUB JOINS TUCSON SOCCER ACADEMY AND FOOTHILLS FUTBOL CLUB IN COLLABORATIVE AGREEMENT

The Three Clubs will Work Together to Provide Youth Players of all Ages

Opportunities to Play Soccer from Recreational to Highly Competitive Teams

May 8th, 2006 (Tucson, Arizona) – The Tucson Soccer Academy (TSA) and the Foothills Futbol Club (FFC) are excited to announce a collaborative agreement with Canyon Del Oro (CDO) Soccer Club.

CDO will be working alongside TSA and FFC in promoting the development of youth soccer
players in the area.
CDO will function as it has for many years in providing a place to play for youth players of all
ages in the Northwest area, ranging from recreational to highly competitive teams.

CDO will have coaching support from TSA and FFC staff coaches.
CDO teams will have a variety of training options as the club looks to help develop players to
their full potential.

Coaches at CDO will provide regular input to TSA age group staff on all players during the
year, with those showing clear improvement having potential opportunities to play on loan with
TSA teams during the season. This functions as part of the long term objective of pooling
the strongest competitive players, as well as providing opportunities for players simply
wanting to play in their local neighborhood.

TSA was founded in 2000 as a joint venture between area soccer clubs and coaches to
develop soccer in Southern Arizona and to provide committed, ambitious, and talented
players with a superior training environment.  CDO has provided a number of players on
TSA teams over the years, including teams still going in the 2006 Arizona State
Championships, as well as producing successful teams in their own right.

Please keep checking the following websites for more information in the up-coming weeks:

As of April 24th 2006, Canyon Del Oro (CDO) Soccer Club is no longer in partnership with Charlton Athletic US Soccer Academy (Caussa).

CDO has always tried to act in the best interests of the players and parents we serve - the financial strain of sustaining the Caussa program became excessive when compared to the limited benefits the association provided.

Due to a combination of these financial issues and the lack of progress in developing the club in key areas, the partnership between CDO and Caussa could not continue.

CDO Soccer Club was the first in America to attempt such an ambitious
international project and valuable lessons have been learned from the
experience that will help our club move forward.

CDO has been in existence for over 25 years, and in order to provide the best soccer experience for our players, we will continue to provide a place to play for ALL, ranging from absolute beginners to those seeking to play at the best level possible.

At the start of the new season, sessions will resume to provide age appropriate training for goalkeepers, in strength & conditioning as well as technical training sessions.

Please re-visit our website  in the coming days and weeks as we add more information about the

2006-07 season, including revised tryout dates.
